  • Oath of Devotion - Like all paladins, Xenk's magic stems from his Oath, specifically the Oath of Devotion. This is a promise sworn to a god of justice (I've chosen Tyr for him) which gives the paladin access to all kinds of magic, in exchange for upholding certain oaths and living in accordance to that Oath. Should Xenk ever act in opposition of his Oath, it will break, leaving him powerless. In such a case, he'd have to either reinstate his Oath and beg his god for clemency, or choose to completely oppose his oath and become an Oathbreaker. The former is way more likely than the latter for him. NOTE: I'll be breaking his Oath in the game due to him simply being outside of Tyr's range, and unable to connect with his God. This means basically all of his skills below will be nerfed, minus his sword and his Thayan abilities, since those are intrinsic to him. (I will still be listing them below for when he gets his powers back.)
  • Aura of Protection - Xenk and his allies within 10 feet of him have advantage on saving throws.
  • Cleansing Touch - Xenk touches a creature within 5 feet of himself. The target magically regains 27 (6d8) hit points and gains the benefit of a lesser restoration spell. (He can cure basic ailments, in other words.)
  • Daggersword - A longsword that can be split into a dagger and shortsword, with the words "Neither virtue nor blade shall break" etched in Celestial on the blade.
  • Legacy of Thay - Not a power in the official sense, Xenk is shown to have a few abilities thanks to surviving the Beckoning Death. These include: darkvision (he's able to see in the dark, though colors are muted to gray), superior hearing, along with things like heightened reflexes, increased endurance and faster healing. He can also detect undead by smelling them from afar, a bit like a bloodhound. He's also good at languages and is largely immortal. While his immortality isn't delved into in the movie, I err more on the side of "came back wrong" for him, since his curse is necrotic in nature. He can't grow back limbs or anything like that, but he's partially undead, so you could probably stitch him back together if he lost a foot or something. This also means Xenk's blood is a little dead, and he probably doesn't need to eat or breathe if he really didn't want to. He should be both handsome and upstanding, but also unsettling and a little off. No one should be this perfect.
  • Since he's classed as an NPC, Xenk is assumed but doesn't necessarily have all of the skills a level 10 Paladin would. This doesn't make a ton of sense for playing him in RP, so if it's OK, I plan to supplement his skills to what a level 10 Paladin could have (erring on the side of his NPC sheet for Saving Throws.) If this isn't OK, I can totally nerf it! There are actually more spells but I don't want to give him Revivify or anything gamebreaking so I plan to keep the selection in that character sheet. But basically, as a PC Paladin, Xenk can heal, and he can smite, and he can do dramatic paladin shit, so long as he keeps to his Oath. (And any of his Control spells, like Command or Compelled Duel would only be used with player permission, of course!)

Inventory: His clothes & half-plate armor, his daggersword

🦋 Personality

Option 2: You may instead choose words from the following list to expand upon as your personality section. Elaborate on what this word means to your character, specifically their thoughts about it. For Canon Characters, you can choose five words. For Original Characters, you will need to choose seven words. Keep the word count to 100-300 per choice.
  • Dead - Being dead is what Xenk would have expected out of his life at this point. When Szass Tam plunged Thay into darkness with the Beckoning Death, Xenk had to flee his home and even his parents, as everyone was cursed and turned into horrible undead thralls as the curse took hold. Xenk was able to flee with his mind and body largely intact, but it means he can no longer die and the mark of that curse will stay with him forever. Xenk really isn't big on necromancy, let's just say.
  • Friendly - Xenk believes he's friendly. One might even say he is! But Xenk is also painfully blunt, honest, and understands very little in terms of wordplay, and is just overall a bit of a strange guy. Whether because of his long life or his curse, Xenk doesn't really operate on the same wavelength as a lot of people. He thinks it's perfectly friendly to tell Edgin Darvis that he shouldn't try to resurrect his dead wife, because she probably has her own, new life in whatever plane her soul ended up. See? Friendly.
  • Pride - Pride is a sin, and one Xenk doesn't ascribe to. He acts with goodness and honesty for the sheer virtue of spreading goodness and helping others, never for personal acclaim or renown. There's no task that's beneath him, or no person he won't help; whether it's a tabaxi child in a fish-monster's mouth or a journey to the Underdark to find an enchanted item, Xenk treats everything he does with the same level of severity and determination. The only pride he has would be to his Oath -- but he's going to have to learn to live without that :)
  • Sin - In D&D, there's something inevitably Catholic about Paladins, let's just be honest. While Xenk does not prescribe to any 1 Faerunian religion, he lives life by his Oath of Devotion, meaning any action that goes against that Oath can easily be considered a sin. Whether it's lying, harming innocents, ignoring those in need... these sorts of acts would go against Xenk's Oath and his way of life. On some level, Xenk also feels that he is tainted by the Beckoning Death, and that his continued life is a sin against the natural order of things. He doesn't dwell on these sorts of thoughts often, but he can't deny the brand on his head -- the same mark that all of Szass Tam's army of thralls have.
  • Child - Xenk's trauma began when he was a child, the Beckoning Death destroying his home when he was in his early teens, if that. This horrific loss scarred him greatly, and Xenk feels an especially strong affinity towards helping children in need, whether they be Edgin's daughter, or drowning babies, or whatever else. He knows firsthand how terrifying it can be to lose everything, especially at such an impressionable age, and would do just about anything to ensure that no others suffer his same fate.

🦋 Fae Court

List your top three choices for your characters adoptive court. The mods will choose the one out of those three options that seems the most fitting based on your app.
  • Autumn Court
  • Dusk Court - I truly believe that Xenk would be a terrible fit for this, but giving him the ability to decay things would be soooo mean.
  • Winter Court

Ability:
3) Yes, but they either have no ability of their own, or they refuse to trade theirs away; they will buy their court's ability on credit.
OR, IF POSSIBLE... A secret 4th thing? Since much of Xenk's power comes from his Oath of Devotion (which he swore to Tyr, the god of Justice,) I think it would be really cool if maybe... that Oath broke from being in another realm! Essentially, Tyr cannot see him here, so he can't hook him up with any power. In such a case, it would be super cool if maybe Xenk would have to swear a new Oath to his Court Ruler in order to get his powers back. Would this be possible? If so, then Xenk would be starting without any of his magic and perhaps
