[ OOC: The following is winging the assumptions. Please feel free to tell me to edit anything here! ]
[ It should come as no surprise that someone has been discreetlymeddling. Lockwood doesn't seek to hinder Xenk's plans, and he has stepped back and watched from the sideline as Xenk has run headlong into more than his fair share of walls. But when he can and as he can, Lockwood tries to keep a protective wing over his fellow young blood. Even if that wing comes in the form of an outside perspective on one of Xenk's machinations, rather than active protection. ]
Xenk,
As I am sure you expected, I've taken the opportunities to introduce myself first to your Kirk and then to his current maker Mr. Darvis. [ Had Xenk given Lockwood the name of Kirk's Maker? Does it really matter? ] I think you are absolutely correct, that Kirk is a natural born member of Gold Court and as I expressed when we spoke about it I still fully support your endeavors to help Kirk see this.
But I believe there is an element that you may have overlooked in your calculations regarding the bond between these two individuals.
I can see exactly what you meant when you said that Kirk holds an obvious affection for Mr. Darvis, and that Mr. Darvis appears to be a passive enough personality to allow Kirk to make his own choices. However, a couple of notes I would draw you attention towards.
First. Do not lose sight of the fact that both these men come from the North. I don't know if you have traveled in the North, particularly during the harshest of weather. I will say simply that surviving the North can create a bond that is unique unto itself.
Second. Mr. Darvis is in pain. I don't know the root cause of the pain, and it certainly is not my place to pry. Kirk wears his pain on his sleeve, Darvis not so much. Do not misread Mr. Darvis' attempt to play folksy. I would wager it is a defense mechanism.
Finally, you know I will not interfere with your intentions, I never have. Even if there were times I probably should have. I'll simply say this. Be kind. I believe you could rip Kirk from Darvis, but I would strong advise that you use kindness in your tactics. It may frustrate you in the short term, I know you Xenk and patience is not your long suit, but I truly believe you, and both Kirk and Darvis will end up much, much stronger for it.
Yours, Locky
ohhh mr lockwood ooh (delivered by xenk, but slid under his door)
[ Lockwood, you are such a good senpai. Xenk really does not deserve this level of depth and interest in his business, yet he is moved by it all the same. He can tell this letter was for his eyes only, and he reads it promptly, writing back and sealing in in golden wax. ]
Locky,
I am touched by your detailed account, and the level to which you have sought to aid me in my endeavors. Please know that I am humbled, as ever, to hold your esteem. And I do not write these kind words out of simple respect for you, but because I truly appreciate them. I endeavor always to be honest, but especially with you.
It gladdens me to hear that you have ratified my decisions thus far, and agree with my desire in seeing James brought over to the house of Summer's Day. Your insight is one I value, and I have pored over your words with great interest. The focus on survival is a thread these two share, and now that you have brought it to my attention it is something I see plainly. Their similarities and close ties are no surprise.
[ His insight into Edgin is especially useful. Edgin was in pain? Was it because of his family, even after all these years? Xenk would maybe not have understood this before, but recent events have given him a closer look into that particular note of pain. ]
I believe your words cut to the heart of it. I have indeed felt the very ends of my patience tried by James and his maker at times, but so too do I believe that cruelty and force will not avail me in my goals. Kirk is not a man who bears any interest in force or violence, though I am well-aware that he is capable of utilizing both. Even were I to steer him towards his darker instincts, I fear this would only waste his talents in assuaging all those around him, and leading in such a way that others simply wish to follow.
His relationship with Edgin is a wrinkle I could not have foreseen, but I well know that any attempts to sever it would result in needless pain. Perhaps once I may have considered this an avenue worth pursuing, but I believe this would be cruel. I am not my father and I do not wish to follow in his footsteps. Thus I have made sure to always present the ways of Gold for what they are, and disparage not the frivolities that the Blue Court holds as being lesser. Edgin may be a strange vampire, and one I fear I may not ever understand, but I know any barb aimed at him would sooner damn me before James' eyes than offer me any favor.
Moreover, as you have said; if Edgin is in pain, I do not wish to exacerbate it intentionally.
[ He's maybe starting to kind of like the guy? Maybe. (Definitely.) ]
Know that I will take your words and encouragement to heart. I fear kindness is a skill I have had little practice in for many years, but its use is not without merit. You have ever been kind to me, after all, and I am grateful for it.
I pray this matter resolves in such a way that we shall all benefit. I have hope that it shall be to our Court's, and Courtsheart's benefit as well.

Kirk will be mine. I know this.
