I'm bored and don't have the time to actually do anything at this second, but if I was, what would you be doing in private right now?~
[... She literally signed it with a lipstick mark because she's the worst and the only person that probably would send him a letter like this with pink lipstick at that.]
[ His letter is delivered by a thrall, of course, with a golden wax seal and perfect penmanship. ]
Dear Lydia,
I take your use of signature to mean you are requesting an insight of a sexual nature? Very well, I am amenable to indulging the imagination.
Were we together, in private as you have posited, we could surely find use for idle hands and delicate fingers. I know how dearly you enjoy my blade, and I do so revel in the sight of your red blood. It would be my pleasure to make you cry out in painful ecstacy as I carve into your pale, supple flesh.
Does this suit your liking? Or was your inquiry into how I find self-pleasure?
[Of course it is and she honestly didn't expect for him to actually reply to her. But, well, she can keep this going just to see how long he'll keep this up.]
Darling,
You don't have to write this like an actual letter, I hope you know. But I do find great amusement in you taking to that so quickly. Though your imagination through words is so vague that I just can't seem to picture exactly what you would like to be doing or have me do.
I do greatly enjoy using my, as you say, delicate fingers in more creative ways but I suspect that you surely wouldn't want the distraction while being so intricate with your blade. I certainly wouldn't want you to slip up while I'm attempting to writhe beneath your touch after all.
[Sorry, Xenk, she is absolutely just using the lipstick for her mark now to be an ass.]
[Sometime shortly after Eden comes to Karma about Xenk trying to get her to join Gold Court, a letter that is hand written and sealed with wax is hand delivered by a thrall.]
Dearest Xenk Yendar,
A conversation you have had with my novice, Eden Woods, has recently come to my attention. I would like to formally request that you do not approach her further about joining the Gold Court as that is not an area of her interest nor where her considerable skills will best be utilized for her future. If you continue to desire to approach her on such matters, I would request that you speak to me about it first as I have her best interests at heart.
Should you speak with her about it without my consent once more, drastic measures will be within reason for me to execute.
Perhaps it would be prudent for you to focus on the Blue Court hopeful you wish to bring into your court instead of Ms. Woods, as I am sure he is a handful that will take up much of your time if you wish to be successful with him.
Please forgive the intrusion if my comments have been misconstrued as an undue interest in Ms. Woods. I was uninformed as to the identity of her Maker, and thus inquired if her interest in Gold was such that a change might be considered, given the skill and interest she shared with me with regards to governmental changes and discussions as part of the Summer Summit. I admit I shared my concerns with her after it became clear that she was at risk of being abandoned by her previous Maker, and have perhaps taken an more than an appropriate interest in her progress as it would have been unfortunate to see her fail through no fault of her own.
[ I mean he "shared his concerns" by being stern and over-checking her work, but that's how he... weirdly shows interest in students. ]
To be clear, it was never my intent to take on Ms. Woods myself. Merely I have expressed concerns over her generalized abilities and skills, and wished to eke out if perhaps she had any particular interests toward any Court in particular. This was clarified to me on her behalf as I understand her interests are academic in nature, and thus do not believe she would make a sensible fit for Gold Court.
I hope the miscommunication can be clarified, as I am loathe to bring the wrath of a youngblood of your considerable talent against me. Such underhanded tactics do not befit myself or my Court. Were I interested in claiming Ms. Woods for the Gold Court, know that I would have brought the matter to you personally, as I did for the Blue Court novice that you have mentioned.
I see that I was misinformed of your intentions and should have further explored the matter before approaching you so sternly. Shamefully, I admit I took my novice at their word and did not ask them for further clarification to understand your intentions. You have ever been an upstanding and forthright vampire and I should not have doubted that for a second, for that you have my sincerest remorse.
Your concerns for her generalization in courses are not misplaced, but I wish to reassure you that the matter has already been addressed between her and I. And must agree that her academic mindset makes her an ill fit for Gold, but quite well placed within Silver. Luckily, as I am now her Maker, she will not fail from any fault not her own. I will see to her proper education and a more goal focused mindset.
I wish you much luck with your Blue Butterfly, he is quite the catch. Were he more suited for Silver I might have taken an interest in him as well, but he is not well placed in my Court.
[ Something tells her that Xenk Yendar is more a sent letter type of person than the type to respond to a journal note. A while after conversing with Karma, she belatedly realized what some of the intentions in the messages had been. ]
Mr Yendar,
I apologize if my Maker sends any correspondence as a warning to you. They may have misinterpreted a few things I've said... A few teachers have been confusing to me since changing makers, and you saying I should consider the Gold Court was just one of the experiences I shared. Not the only, and I didn't phrase it as a complaint. I wasn't anticipating them to take it so... seriously.
Please know I said nothing bad about you. Apologies again if anything has or ends up being sent your way from Mx D'Auvergn.
Your apology is accepted. Know that no harm was done to my reputation, nor that of your maker's, as the situation was resolved without violence.
I hope this proves to be a lesson to you, should you wish to heed it. In the world of the undying, the words you speak and the actions you take can have unexpected consequences. We vampires can be capricious in nature, and in our haste we protect that which is ours, or that which we perceive to be threatened. To be frank, there are a great deal of novices whose deaths are unrelated to their courses. A simple misspoken word can end a fragile life.
As I am certain your previous maker did not share this information with you, I do not fault you for your misstep. You will learn, as with all in Courtsheart, or you will die. For your sake, let it be the former and not the latter.
I was not even aware that violence was even a risk when sharing my confusion. I take it that would be the 'unexpected' consequence, though I would never have imagined that happening. You are correct in that Doctor Steinbach did not share this information, nor did we hold much of a bond. I am coming to learn just how much harm that's caused.
I'll heed your warning and remember the nature of how a Maker can be. Well, all vampires, as you've put it. It sounds like having a novice just triggers that part of vampires more easily.
[ Edgin is just storming into Xenk's office hours. Is it ungodly early? Well, for Edgin, yes, but he knows Xenk doesn't have a life, he's pretty sure he's going to be here. ]
[ Correct, Xenk does not have a life. He does enjoy reading books in his office when he's not practicing his swordplay or whatever, so Edgin just steps on in while Xenk looks up from his smutty novel. ]
Yes? Is something the matter?
[ He is not paying Edgin much attention, but in his defense, he just got to a really good part. ]
[A letter sealed with a wax seal and delivered by a thrall. The handwriting is extremely neat; Elias is pulling out his penmanship class handwriting for this one.]
Esteemed Xenk Yendar,
I am writing to inquire as to whether you performed any mental or dream manipulation on me recently. Did you do that? Apparitions taking your form have appeared in my dreams and so I am covering all my bases.
[ Xenk would recognize this handwriting, even after so many years. He's pleased to see that Elias is still so respectful, for all that the dream had been... strange. He isn't insulted that Elias assumes he'd mess with his dreams, either. He's Xenk Yendar, after all. His suspicion is logical.
He'll respond with his own neat handwriting, though the stress from his dreams has left him a bit tired this month. He actually uses print instead of cursive. Damn. ]
Elias,
You will be relieved to know that the matter of our shared dream was outside of my control. It seems the castle is presently beset with some manner of shared dream curse, and you thus found yourself the visitor to a nightmare in my mind.
I apologize for the unseemly display you witnessed. My subconscious mind conjured a pathetic display on my part, and while I held no control over what you witnessed, your aid was appreciated.
[ OOC: The following is winging the assumptions. Please feel free to tell me to edit anything here! ]
[ It should come as no surprise that someone has been discreetlymeddling. Lockwood doesn't seek to hinder Xenk's plans, and he has stepped back and watched from the sideline as Xenk has run headlong into more than his fair share of walls. But when he can and as he can, Lockwood tries to keep a protective wing over his fellow young blood. Even if that wing comes in the form of an outside perspective on one of Xenk's machinations, rather than active protection. ]
Xenk,
As I am sure you expected, I've taken the opportunities to introduce myself first to your Kirk and then to his current maker Mr. Darvis. [ Had Xenk given Lockwood the name of Kirk's Maker? Does it really matter? ] I think you are absolutely correct, that Kirk is a natural born member of Gold Court and as I expressed when we spoke about it I still fully support your endeavors to help Kirk see this.
But I believe there is an element that you may have overlooked in your calculations regarding the bond between these two individuals.
I can see exactly what you meant when you said that Kirk holds an obvious affection for Mr. Darvis, and that Mr. Darvis appears to be a passive enough personality to allow Kirk to make his own choices. However, a couple of notes I would draw you attention towards.
First. Do not lose sight of the fact that both these men come from the North. I don't know if you have traveled in the North, particularly during the harshest of weather. I will say simply that surviving the North can create a bond that is unique unto itself.
Second. Mr. Darvis is in pain. I don't know the root cause of the pain, and it certainly is not my place to pry. Kirk wears his pain on his sleeve, Darvis not so much. Do not misread Mr. Darvis' attempt to play folksy. I would wager it is a defense mechanism.
Finally, you know I will not interfere with your intentions, I never have. Even if there were times I probably should have. I'll simply say this. Be kind. I believe you could rip Kirk from Darvis, but I would strong advise that you use kindness in your tactics. It may frustrate you in the short term, I know you Xenk and patience is not your long suit, but I truly believe you, and both Kirk and Darvis will end up much, much stronger for it.
Yours, Locky
ohhh mr lockwood ooh (delivered by xenk, but slid under his door)
[ Lockwood, you are such a good senpai. Xenk really does not deserve this level of depth and interest in his business, yet he is moved by it all the same. He can tell this letter was for his eyes only, and he reads it promptly, writing back and sealing in in golden wax. ]
Locky,
I am touched by your detailed account, and the level to which you have sought to aid me in my endeavors. Please know that I am humbled, as ever, to hold your esteem. And I do not write these kind words out of simple respect for you, but because I truly appreciate them. I endeavor always to be honest, but especially with you.
It gladdens me to hear that you have ratified my decisions thus far, and agree with my desire in seeing James brought over to the house of Summer's Day. Your insight is one I value, and I have pored over your words with great interest. The focus on survival is a thread these two share, and now that you have brought it to my attention it is something I see plainly. Their similarities and close ties are no surprise.
[ His insight into Edgin is especially useful. Edgin was in pain? Was it because of his family, even after all these years? Xenk would maybe not have understood this before, but recent events have given him a closer look into that particular note of pain. ]
I believe your words cut to the heart of it. I have indeed felt the very ends of my patience tried by James and his maker at times, but so too do I believe that cruelty and force will not avail me in my goals. Kirk is not a man who bears any interest in force or violence, though I am well-aware that he is capable of utilizing both. Even were I to steer him towards his darker instincts, I fear this would only waste his talents in assuaging all those around him, and leading in such a way that others simply wish to follow.
His relationship with Edgin is a wrinkle I could not have foreseen, but I well know that any attempts to sever it would result in needless pain. Perhaps once I may have considered this an avenue worth pursuing, but I believe this would be cruel. I am not my father and I do not wish to follow in his footsteps. Thus I have made sure to always present the ways of Gold for what they are, and disparage not the frivolities that the Blue Court holds as being lesser. Edgin may be a strange vampire, and one I fear I may not ever understand, but I know any barb aimed at him would sooner damn me before James' eyes than offer me any favor.
Moreover, as you have said; if Edgin is in pain, I do not wish to exacerbate it intentionally.
[ He's maybe starting to kind of like the guy? Maybe. (Definitely.) ]
Know that I will take your words and encouragement to heart. I fear kindness is a skill I have had little practice in for many years, but its use is not without merit. You have ever been kind to me, after all, and I am grateful for it.
I pray this matter resolves in such a way that we shall all benefit. I have hope that it shall be to our Court's, and Courtsheart's benefit as well.
[It should come of no surprise that after their arrangement, Lydia has decided that she is absolutely and completely allowed to come bother him during his office hours. It's not as if many students really take the time up, as far as she's aware, and she has nothing better to do than to give her company and be an annoying pest to him all at the same time.
Which is precisely why she's slinking into said office, making sure to close the door behind her and whether he says anything to her or not, just dramatically sprawl herself across his lap on her back.
Her hair being free today was merely just a matter of convenience, but gravity certainly shows the long pointed ears from this position.]
Xeeeeeeeenk~ [There's the whining "please give me attention" phase.]
[ Xenk's office hours are indeed a ghost town. He's too harsh to welcome students, and most of them fear him anyway. It works out great!
Xenk himself is reading a book (he finished grading papers, so he's back to reading his smut,) when Lydia walks in and makes herself quite at home in his office. In his lap.
Xenk sets the book down, tilting his head curiously. ]
Lydia. To what do I owe the pleasure of your presence?
[ From anyone else, this might be sarcastic, but he means it. It's odd to see her with her hair down, but he doesn't hate it. ]
[Sealed and delivered by a thrall is a letter from one James T. Kirk for a Xenk Yendar.]
Xenk,
I felt it was time that you and I spoke about some things. To be forthright, there's a number of both new and long overdue conversations to be had between us.
When would you be free and where would you like to speak? I believe some of what we need to speak on could be considered sensitive, so I did not want to intrude on your office hours in case some may overhear. My room is available if you desire (I'm not coming on to you for once, promise. Although...).
[ What a darling letter to receive. Xenk has been giving Jim space, though perhaps more accurately, Xenk has been dealing with a very strange month indeed, and a very strange array of feelings. He still cares for Kirk and wants him desperately. He knows Gold is his destiny, without question.
But Xenk doesn't resent Edgin near as much for having the man. More, he can resent that Edgin has been holding Kirk back while at the same time knowing that Edgin is a good man. Sentiment, you see, has malleable value. And Xenk is beginning to understand that. So it's been weird. But they've put off their conversations for long enough, and though Jim said he would make his decision soon, Xenk hasn't pushed him.
He knows he does not need to, and so his response is swift. ]
James,
Know that it brightens me to hear from you. I agree, we are overdue for a frank discussion, which I look forward to and understand your desire for discretion. I am free tomorrow evening, though I can accommodate an early hour at dawn if you would rather a time in which the castle will be at its quietest.
If you wish to speak in your room, I will join you with great anticipation. Simply let me know.
[ He'll be happy to get comfortable in there, considering he might be spending a lot more time there in the future... he hopes. ]

I don't understand why that would happen. I didn't think you being pathetic was a concept even possible any more.

A hand written note, delivered by Lockwood himself to Xenk's desk

I felt it was time that you and I spoke about some things. To be forthright, there's a number of both new and long overdue conversations to be had between us.
When would you be free and where would you like to speak? I believe some of what we need to speak on could be considered sensitive, so I did not want to intrude on your office hours in case some may overhear. My room is available if you desire (I'm not coming on to you for once, promise.
Although...).I await your reply.
With Warm Regards,
James T. Kirk

[ He'll be happy to get comfortable in there, considering he might be spending a lot more time there in the future... he hopes. ]
Yours,
Xenk Yendar
